Alan Wearne is the author of four books including the award winning verse novel The Nightmarkets. An Essendon supporter since 1954 he helped found the Nunawading District Junior Football League and was, for one season, a boundary umpire with the Eastern Districts Football League seconds. He was once mistaken for Jason Dunstall and shares his birthday with Tony Shaw.
