Todd Turner was born in 1971 and raised in the western suburbs of Sydney. His parents were from farming families in the town of Koorawatha, situated on the Western Plains of New South Wales. They came to Sydney in 1959.

His father worked as an interstate truck driver and his mother raised four boys as well as working part time at a local grocery store.

In 1987 he was apprenticed as a jeweller with a large jewellery manufacturing company and worked alongside gold and silversmiths, enamellists, gem setters and hand engravers, learning various techniques of the craft. Many of those craftspeople instilled in him a deep interest in art and literature. Upon completing his apprenticeship in 1991 he travelled throughout Europe before returning to Sydney after the sudden death of his younger brother. He then travelled to London and throughout Africa and the Middle East. In 1993 he returned to Sydney where he established his own studio and worked with fine jewellery houses as a freelancer, worked on commissioned pieces and created works for exhibition. Today he and his fiancée, a hand engraver, share a studio in Parramatta. Together they live with Todd’s young daughter. He began writing poetry in 2004.
