Kieran Carroll was born in 1968. Prior to becoming a playwright, he spent the 1990s as a regularly published poet, performance poet and lyricist for literary pop band, The Beautiful Few. Switching forms, in 2002, his first play 3XY OR I DIE! was judged Best Original Production at the Melbourne Fringe Festival. After moving to Sydney, his next two plays appeared at The Old Fitzroy Theatre. On his return to Melbourne in 2006, La Mama Theatre became the central venue for his work with five further plays being produced. His most recent productions include: The Giraffe’s Uncle (The Les Robinson Story) which has enjoyed three seasons in Sydney and Melbourne and the ongoing rock’n’roll biographical play Sons of Sun (The Sam Phillips Story) about Sun Records, Memphis, which was performed at the Sydney Opera House studio in 2014 and 2015. He has received writing residencies around the world including the prestigious Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, New York. He holds an MA (by Research) from QUT, Brisbane (2008). He lives in the southern Melbourne suburb of Edithvale.
