Judith Colquhoun

Published Title : Thicker Than Water

Judith Colquhoun was born in North Queensland and studied production at the National Institute of Dramatic Art. She was a film editor with ABC Television and a radio copywriter before becoming invited to write television scripts for Bellbird. It began a 40 year career of television and telemovie scriptwriting, including for The Sullivans, Twenty Good Years, Skyways, GP, Something in the Air, Flying Doctors, MDA, The Man From Snowy River, Blue Heelers, A Country Practice, Home and Away and Neighbours, and the children’s series Cornflakes for Tea, Zoo Family and Ocean Girl. Judith is still (to her slight chagrin) best-known for killing Molly Jones in A Country Practice.

Judith’s television career resulted in five AWGIE awards and in 2007 she was a made a Life Member of the Australian Writers’ Guild. She is married with two children and two grandchildren.

In 2009 Judith gave up scriptwriting to work on Thicker Than Water. Importantly for the novel, she had been a script consultant in Naples for the television serial Un Posto al Sole. That experience provides a turning point for the plot of Thicker Than Water.
